What is the importance of a literature review for dissertation?

A thesis comprises of several chapters depending on the requirements of a university and the specific research topic but out of all these chapters the review of literature is the most important chapter. A research report is not deemed to be reliable, relevant or effective if it does not contain a properly written review. The importance of a literature review for dissertation can be realized by the fact that the findings, observation and conclusion of the researcher will never be accepted without the review due to lack of literary support and evidence. The review basically provides the reader with a specific context of the research and how that research attempts to fill any gaps of previous researches in a particular area of research. The review also enables the readers to relate a specific research to a particular area of study and experiment. It is this importance that the weight of this chapter is highest with respect to the overall grade and length of a specific document.
